MicroWorld Launches X-Spam for Microsoft Exchange 2000-2003
Revolutionary, highly adaptive Anti-Spam Software that protects the Microsoft Exchange 2000-2003 servers from Spam
Michigan January 14, 2005 -- After successful beta testing, MicroWorld Technologies Inc., a leading researcher and developer of Internet communication and security software, has now formally announced the commercial launch of X-Spam product "X-Spam for Microsoft Exchange 2000-2003", the ultimate Spam eXterminator for servers and workstations.
X-Spam for Exchange 2000-2003 (X-Spam) is highly adaptive Anti-Spam Software that protects the Microsoft Exchange 2000-2003 servers from Spam. X-Spam uses advanced Heuristic Filter engine combined with Regular Expression and Meta Tests, which refine Spam identification to an art, to positively identify Spam and block it. The product uses more than 700 rules of regular expressions to check mail headers and blacklisted servers to get an accuracy of 95-98% in fighting Spam.
X-Spam uses Heuristics Scoring to reduce the probability of catching legitimate emails as Spam. These scores are generated using a Genetic Algorithm (Based on Artificial Intelligence).
X-Spam for Exchange 2000-2003 is maintenance free software and once installed will practically run on its own and stay updated by automatically downloading the latest Rule Sets. An intuitive interface is provided to further customize the filter, scoring and other Spam fighting options. Most importantly, with its AI-based score generation, X-Spam for Exchange 2000-2003 prevents legitimate mail from being tagged as Spam.
Email being the most ubiquitous mode of communication today, its efficiency is being marred by spammers, who have started to use this medium in order to hawk their unwanted wares. With the prospect of being blacklisted, they have also resorted to using viruses and worms as a vehicle to push across their mails to unsuspecting users, said Mr. Govind Rammurthy, CEO and MD, MicroWorld. X-Spam will clearly be a boon to medium and large corporates, who want to increase the email communication efficiency, he further said.
X-Spam fights Spam at two levels. Initially, at the mail protocol level and also after a mail is accepted.
Before accepting mail at the mail protocol layer, the following checks are conducted:
- RBL/DUL Checks: Here, if a connecting mail server is listed in a Spam sending black list, mail is not accepted from it.
- Reverse DNS Lookups: If the connecting servers IP address does not match the servers domain, then the mail is rejected.
- User/IP/Host Black Lists: These are user-defined customizable lists for blocking mails from particular users, hosts or IP addresses.
Hence, a considerable amount of Spam is blocked at the gateway level itself with the help of the stringent checks mentioned above.
If the mail successfully passes through the gateway, it still has to go through a series of special filters that add to the total Spam score of the mail. X-Spam has a pre-defined customizable Spam threshold. If the total Spam score of the mail crosses that threshold, then it is tagged as Spam.
Regular Expressions are Rule Sets to identify Spam and have a score associated with each of them. When mails are tested for Spam, they must test positive for a Rule Set only then the score is added to the total score. Only when the total score reaches a threshold value is the mail identified as Spam.
Meta Tests allow you to run further refined tests to identify Spam. These tests allow you to use a combination of multiple Rule Sets with qualifiers like and, or and so on. This helps you to target different parts of the mail (header, body, etc.) with a single meta test.
